It’s always nice to hear about the revival of beloved old restaurants, especially ones as eclectic as Trader Vic’s, the Polynesian-inspired restaurant and tiki bar that opened its first L.A. location at the Beverly Hilton in 1955. Especially when it comes to iconic and iconic restaurants. .

According to WeHoOnline, the chain plans to open a new flagship store in West Hollywood sometime next year. The previous location officially closed in 2007 (a short-lived follow-up at LA Live closed in 2014).

“Everything we’re trying to do as a company is bring back the rich history of Trader Vic’s,” Rhett Rosen, CEO of Trader Vic’s Hospitality Group, told the outlet.

WeHoOnline reports that the restaurant will be located at 9091 Santa Monica Blvd., just down the road from the Troubadour, taking over a 1920s brick building that has housed a variety of businesses over the years, but has been empty lately.

“Although the building remained vacant for decades after the fire, the rooftop sign remains valuable to advertisers,” the report said. “Located in a vibrant area of West Hollywood near popular spots like Kuku and Andy’s, we are poised to attract both long-time fans and curious newcomers.”

The original Trader Vic’s was known for its Polynesian theme, signature dishes, and its take on the Mai Tai, a rum cocktail made with Curacao liqueur, orgeat syrup, and lime juice. (The original location in Oakland is one of two spots that claim to have invented this cocktail.)

You can expect the latest version of the eatery to pay homage to the decor, tiki mugs, menu and live music schedule of its oldest space, while focusing on all things cocktails (WeHoOnline notes that tropical drinks are part of the business’ (Potentially 40%). .

Perhaps most exciting in the short term is the fact that the brand plans to host a pop-up experience at the Hollywood chain this December to reacquaint Angelenos with Trader Vic’s products. Enjoy classic cocktails, appetizers and more for intimate events.
