The helicopter broke in the air and crashed upside down into the Hudson River between Manhattan and New Jersey waterfront on Thursday, with all six on board, authorities said.
It was the latest aviation disaster that has hit the US in recent months. The investigation is in an early stage, and at this point, authorities say the cause remains unknown. They investigate many factors.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has identified the victim as a family visiting from Spain. They include Agustin Escobar, a executive at tech company Siemens, as well as an adult relative and three children, officials said. The pilot also died in a crash. Four of the six casualties died at the scene, two of whom died at the hospital, officials said.
The other five identities have not been confirmed at this time.
