Josh Duhamel enjoys a quiet life.

Certainly, the “Ransom Canyon” star has recently swapped with fresh Minnesota air and gorgeous lakes and bright Hollywood lights.

“I make movies and TV shows. I love it. I really like it, but I made this call and made it to make things happen with my hands again,” Duhamel told people in an interview released on August 10th.

“I’m a person who really wants to stay true to my roots and go back to basics and hone the basic skills needed in this massive tech world,” he continued.

So, more than a decade ago, the 52-year-old bought half the land in the sky not too far from Fargo, North Dakota. And ever since, he has been slowly building a rustic cabin on the lakeside, which he calls his “Doomsday Cabin.”

“We’re in a place where we feel it’s doing now,” Duhamel shared. “It’s completely livable now.”

“It’s so back to basics,” he added. “We’re so used to all of these luxury and these amenities we have. I think that’s what this is for me. It’s an opportunity to go back to the basics and really enjoy the simple things in life.

As for the family, the “Safe Shelter” actor, who shares his 18-month-old son Shepherd with his wife Audra Mali and his 11-year-old son Axl with his ex-wife Fergie, is delighted to connect with nature along with the people he loves most.

“We’re in the woods there, so it’s fun,” he gushed. “There are bald eagles everywhere. Otters swim with little babies everywhere.”

But while living in wildlife may seem like a magical experience, it is not without obstacles.

“We’re always fighting the mouse to get into the cabin,” Duhamel said. “It’s the nature struggle and the nature struggle we deal with.”

In an interview with “Deep with Graham Bensinger,” Josh Duhamel recalls why he and Fergie split up.
