Gillian Lauren Schliner, a booked woman with attempted murder, reportedly fired by officers during her standoff after being shot by police in search of a hit and run suspect in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Schliner, the wife of bestselling author and Weezer bassist Scott Schliner, was confused in the incident after a suspect fled on foot on the 134 freeway to the Eagle Rock area.
While police searched the suspect’s backyard in the Eagle Vista Drive and Wald Place areas, police said Schliner had emerged from the house next to her, armed with a gun.
Police said Schliner, 51, refused multiple orders to drop the firearm and instead set it on officers to launch a fire, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Jennifer Falksh told the Los Angeles Times in a statement.
A crash on the 134 highway prompted the arrest of a man and two women in Eagle Rock on April 8, 2025. Schliner was shot by officers and retreated to her home before eventually leaving his property and being taken into custody.
She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for a life-threatening gunshot wound, and was later booked for suspected attempted murder of a peace officer. A 9mm handgun was recovered from her residence.
A hit and run suspect, pursued by officers, was found and taken into custody the same afternoon. No other two suspects involved in the crash were found.
Bassist Scott Schliner has recorded 12 studio albums since joining Weezer in 2001. The band is scheduled to perform at Coachella this year.
