It’s been three years since Will Smith’s life was turned over after Will Smith slaps comedian Chris Rock on the 2022 Academy Awards stage.
On his song “Int. Barbershop – Day,” based on his new album “The Story Story,” Smith speaks the controversy head-on by talking about it on the album’s first track.
The nearly two-minute track features Jazzy Jeff and B. Simone’s Day, consisting of various voices shooting the wind in a barber shop-like atmosphere. The topic of conversation touches on Smith’s children, his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith, his film career, and more essentially everything that has been said about the fresh prince over the past five years.
It starts with someone saying, “Will Smith has been cancelled,” and someone else says, “Oh, you can’t cancel the icon.”
Will Smith says he “lost it” when he slapped Chris Rock
After the exchange, the slap gate is dealt with.
“I heard he won the Oscars, but he had to return it, and you know they just let him do that s-t because he’s black,” said one of the voices.
Smith managed to maintain his award, but he slapped Lock and was banned from the ceremony for 10 years.
The conversation continues later when Pinkett Smith’s name was raised.
“He and Jada are both crazy, girl, what you’re talking about. You’d better protect his wife’s name from your mouth.”
One of the last lines says, “I will never forgive him what he did.”
Will Smith announces the tour: “We have some fun!”
After a while, you may hear a bell that looks like a barber shop door. Smith showed that he had entered the place and everyone turned their songs into something more advantageous to the rapper/singer.
Smith spoke more about his marriage in his new song, “Lookin’ for me?”
“After a lot of time, I’ve come back to the top, Yall gon’ has to adapt. Not stop, despite not being nominated, my s-t is still hot. Personal life with my wife, take your business to heart, it’s complicated.”
Their relationship has been the topic of tabloid feed for decades, but things exploded in 2020 when the couple spoke to Pinkett Smith’s 2016 entanglement with R&B singer Augusto Arcina.
