Congressional Republicans were in high spirits Monday as lawmakers met to certify President-elect Donald Trump’s White House victory.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) told Fox News Digital, “It went well. It went smoothly. This is a textbook transition of power. This is how a democracy should work.” spoke.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) praised Republican and Democratic leaders who led the largely ceremonial event.

“It was really great to see the certification go smoothly. I thought Vice President Harris handled it well. J.D. Vance, who was a sitting senator at the time but was preparing to become vice president. It was great to have him in the room as well.”So this is very historic,” he told reporters.

Like Comer, House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Kevin Hahn (R-Okla.) noted how calm the process was.

“Everyone acknowledges the fact that President Trump won the Electoral College and the popular vote, so Democrats don’t really deny that he didn’t have the authority to carry out his policies. And We’re going to do that.’ We’re definitely going to help him get it done,” Hahn told FOX News Digital.

Rep. Nancy Mace (RS.C.) said Monday was a “great day in American history.”

“There’s no time to waste. We have to get to work as quickly as humanly possible, as quickly as possible, right away,” Mace said.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) emphasized the Republicans’ overwhelming victory in the November election, saying, “This is a clear mandate from the voters, and we will now take that mandate.” We need to work to make it happen,” he told FOX News Digital.

Harris to oversee certification of Trump’s defeat in presidential election: ‘Sacred duty’

Rep. Mike Hallidoropos, R-Florida, a first-term lawmaker, says he’s excited to now start implementing the Republican agenda, citing a snowstorm that shut down much of Washington, D.C., except the U.S. Capitol on Monday. mentioned.

“I think we’re all excited to start the Republican trifecta,” he said. “I’m very excited and glad it’s over. It took a snow day to make it happen, but we’re definitely here and ready to go to work.”

Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.), also just beginning his first term in the House, called the process “fascinating.”

“It was really great to see that process today. It was an honor to be there and a real honor to be a part of it,” Sheehy said. “And I think the snowstorm symbolizes that the winds of change are blowing. We’re going to get this country back on the right track.”

Lawmakers from both houses of Congress met in a joint session of Congress to certify Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, who is constitutionally obligated to preside over the proceedings.

The orderly process was in stark contrast to the scene in the House four years ago, when a mob protesting the 2020 election results halted proceedings and forced lawmakers into hiding for several hours.

Unlike four years ago, when lawmakers were forced to finish certification for hours past midnight, Monday’s event wrapped up in less than an hour.

Unlike 2016, when several progressives questioned Trump’s victory, no Democratic senators objected to his victory.

“I think this just showed that America is really ready for a new page and a new start,” said Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Florida. “You could see that, at least on the Republican side, we were pretty excited about the election results.”

Another Florida lawmaker and Trump ally, Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.), told Fox News Digital, “I had no issues with the certification and I will not object to the certification.” I’m glad we didn’t have to chant. And everyone is very happy that we got the certification.” Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance at the White House and Naval Observatory, and we are ready to make America great again. ”
