The numbers drawn for Friday night’s jackpot were 3, 7, 37, 49, 55, the Mega Ball was 6, and the Megaplier was 3x. This was the fifth largest winning amount in the history of government-run games.
The jackpot continued to grow for over three months. The last time someone hit the jackpot was on September 10th, when a player in Texas won $800 million.
The $1 billion prize went to the only winner who chose to be paid through an annuity in 30 annual payments. Winners almost always prefer the cash option, with an estimated $549.7 million in Friday night’s drawing.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington DC, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11pm ET.
