The 41-year-old woman has been accused of attempting to smuggle fentanyl tablets into a juvenile detention facility in Los Angeles County, where the child was a resident, officials said Thursday.
An attempt to bring the drug to the Barry J. Nidorf Youth facility at 1635 Filbert Street in Sylmer unfolded in 2023, according to a news release from the LA County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors allege that Jenny Morenopara contacted the facility from a supervisor-deputy parent who possessed more than 30 pills that later tested positive for a powerful opioid drug.
After being arrested in 2023, Morenoparra was released without charge while former LA county Da George Gascón took office.
Nathan Hochman, now LA County DA, considered the case when he took office, and a warrant for the arrest of the 41-year-old was issued in May this year.

“Fentanyl is too dangerous. It’s 50 times more powerful than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine. It’s not dealing with its lethality with the severity and immediacy that is necessary,” he said.
Hochman added that the suspect in Morenopara put juvenile residents on the facility, including herself.

The 41-year-old, who was safely detained on July 11, was charged with hiring minors for each bringing illegal substances to prison, employing minors and carrying drugs and possession for the sale of controlled substances.
“Introducing medicines in safe facilities will put public safety and lives at risk and undermine rehabilitation,” said Guillermo Viera Rosa, Chief Probation Officer. “We are grateful for the district attorney’s focus on accountability and public safety.”
Morenopara is scheduled to appear in court on August 1st.
