A Valencia woman has been arrested on suspicion of allegedly looting a Palisade residence in the Pacific Ocean, which was heavily affected by the Palisade fire, authorities said on Saturday.
Officers of the West Valley Area Office of the California Highway Patrol were notified of looting that occurred at a residence in Palisade, the Pacific, around 1pm on Friday. They responded to the scene but were unable to find the suspect. The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect and her vehicle. This, the agency said, determined that the officer was registered at a Valencia address.
Officials from the CHP’s Newhall Area Office responded to the address and arrested the suspect.
Authorities said the suspect, identified as Karen Masty, was stolen from a burnt-out residence, arrested on suspicion of grand larceny and booked at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley Station.

State legislators and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman are supporting proposed laws aimed at stopping looters and others who use property owners in the fire zone. This bill, AB 469, has received bipartisan support in Sacramento.
It would plunder felony instead of a misdemeanor, increase the possible prison sentence to four years instead of one, and report law enforcement attempts to rob burned property; Eton Fire Disaster Zone reported more elaborate attempts to exploit the victims of the Pallisard and patient.
