A 26-year-old woman has been charged with manslaughter after another woman was killed in a head-on crash in Mission Viejo early on New Year’s Day.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that the crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. at Margaret Parkway and Pueblo Nuevo Drive, and when officers arrived they found a Chevrolet Malibu and a Toyota Camry collided head-on. announced that they had discovered.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes of Margaret Parkway and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry,” officials said.
The driver of the Camry, identified only as a woman in her 60s, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In Malibu, the driver and passenger were hospitalized with injuries, and the driver, Geraldine Caicedo-Perez, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross negligence resulting in death.
Caicedo Perez did not show up for a search of jail records, but deputies said she was booked into the Orange County Jail. Her bail amount and next court date were not set.
