A woman in her 20s was shot dead Tuesday morning while driving in an Orange neighborhood.
Amber Nicole Parsons, 24, of Costa Mesa, was at a Honda SUV on Highland Street near Del Mar Avenue around 12:30am when multiple rounds were fired into the vehicle.
She died at the scene. No passengers in the SUV were injured. The woman is from Orange County but does not live in Orange, police said.
“We don’t have any information that they’re coming from this neighborhood. We’re still investigating what they were doing here at 12:30 last night,” said Lt. Colonel Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department.
The passenger made one of the 911 calls, police said. Police interview the woman and are looking for security cameras that may have recorded the shooting.
Residents who live near the scene said, tragic, that it is not uncommon for gun violence to occur in the neighborhood.
“Last night I was asleep and I heard someone filmed it in the middle of the night, and that happens frequently here,” said Emilio Valdez, who lives in the area.
“I want to say I heard it like 14 gunshots, 10 gunshots,” said Raylin Lewis, another resident of the neighborhood. “To be honest, if you can see, it’s tagged in every corner of the ground. This place is affiliated. That’s nothing new, do you know?”
The shooter left the scene on foot. A detailed description of the man was not immediately available.
Video from the scene showed an SUV with a shattered rear window and a bullet hole on at least one side. Several evidence markers were placed near the SUV.
