An investigation is underway after firefighters battling a house fire in San Marino discovered the body of a woman inside, authorities said Monday.
Fire crews were dispatched to the 2000 block of Lorain Road just before 10 a.m. after receiving a report of a fire, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Sky5 captured aerial footage of the incident, and neighbors told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw that they could see flames coming from the back of the home near the kitchen.
It was only after firefighters had extinguished the flames that the gruesome discovery was made.
“This is obviously not normal. It’s pretty peaceful around here,” one neighbor told KTLA. “I’ve lived here all my life and I can tell you this is not at all unusual. In the 21 years I’ve lived here, I think I’ve probably seen two major crimes happen.”

Responding Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives quickly learned that a husband, wife, and two children lived in the home, and they determined the cause of the fire and a history of violent activity at the home. We are working to find out whether there was a report.

“All we’re hearing is there’s been a minor theft call and a wildlife call, but nothing like domestic violence,” Lt. Steve DeJong told reporters. That’s what I mean.”
Authorities added that the woman’s family is cooperating with the investigation to determine whether the fire was just a tragic accident or possible criminal activity.
Surveillance cameras in and around the property could provide investigators with that information, but authorities would need to obtain a search warrant before obtaining the footage.
“Due to hypersensitivity, [the investigation]We’re going to wait before making any statements about what we’re revealing,” DeJong said.
