After Trump’s candidates advance in Thursday’s heavyweight decision, Linda McMahon’s consideration to run the Department of Education (DOED) heads for the Senate’s entire vote.
McMahon testified before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions during a confirmation hearing last week. She was burned in recent spending cuts from government efficiency (DOGE) and could potentially dismantle DOED and Title IX.
“We need strong leaders in our departments to get our education system back on track,” R-La. Senator Bill Cassidy said ahead of the committee’s vote. “Mrs. McMahon is the partner this committee needs.”
On Thursday, the committee voted to advance McMahon’s appointment for the Secretary of Education to a full Senate vote.

I-Vt. Sen. Bernie Sanders spoke against her nomination during the vote Thursday.
“I personally like her. I respect the work she did when building a large and successful business. But the main points she has to do at this particular point in history. I think that doesn’t really matter who it is, because education or the Secretary of Labor doesn’t call those people a shot,” Sanders said.
McMahon’s appointment is now heading to the Senate floor, where the entire Chamber of Commerce votes for her appointment. At this time, there are no plans to vote for the floor.

“It’s a big fraudulent job,” Trump said the day before the McMahon confirmation hearing. “They are ranked among the top countries in the world. We are ranked 40th, but we are ranked 1st in one category. Cost per student. So, the world We are ranked 40th, although it costs more per student than any other country.
The president said he hopes McMahon will “get himself out of work” if confirmed.
