The busy tourist season is approaching Yosemite National Park, with officials warning visitors to be aware of “one of the most dangerous animals” in the park.
Mule deer causes more injuries to visitors in the park than any other animal, according to a National Park Service’s Instagram post.
“These animals may look harmless to humans, but they are still wild and thin,” according to the post. “A deer with sharp hooves and horns will attack and defend if they are surprised.
According to Park Services, Bucks are particularly prone to using their enemies and horns to take offensive action, especially during late fall mating season. Women usually give birth to one or two fawns in early summer and nurse them for about two months. According to Park Services, fawns are known to hide in the underbrush while the mother feeds.
Authorities warned that it is illegal to get close to wildlife in Yosemite to feed wildlife and to protect human safety. They advised people to maintain a safe distance when viewing these animals from afar.
Muledia also warned that it is important for authorities to drive carefully while visiting the park, as they tend to gather near roads, especially near vegetation at dawn and dusk.
