YouTube TV, the leading live TV streaming service, will increase prices for current subscribers in the new year. Also.
The service announced the price increase Thursday in an email sent to subscribers, followed by a statement on social media.
The new price is set at $82.99 per month for the basic plan, up from the previous price of $72.99. New subscribers will see the new rates applied as early as Thursday, and current subscribers will see the new rates applied to their wallets on January 13th.
YouTube TV cited “increased content costs” as the reason for the price increase.
“We did not make these decisions lightly and recognize the impact this will have on our members,” the statement said. “With so many exciting shows and live events coming up in 2025, we remain committed to bringing you the best TV in one place.”
YouTube TV, owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, launched in 2017 as an alternative to traditional cable services for $35 a month. After adding the Discovery network in 2019, the price jumped to $50, according to Yahoo Finance.
The service announced earlier this year that it had surpassed 8 million subscribers.
KTLA 5 was added to the service for subscribers in the Los Angeles area in 2023.
