European leaders will join Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelensky on a trip to Washington, DC on Monday to host a high-stakes meeting with US President Donald Trump.
On Sunday, NATO Executive Director Mark Latte, European Commission Chairman Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Finland President Alexander Stubb all confirmed attendees. Their joint existence underscores Europe’s resolve to present a united front in support of Ukraine as the Russian war drags on.
Putin demands control of Ukraine’s major territories in exchange for peace: European diplomats
Prior to his meeting with Trump, Zelenki met with von der Leyen at the European Commission in Brussels, setting prioritization of White House talks, focusing on long-term military aid, Ukraine’s ambitions to join the EU, and strengthening transatlantic solidarity in the face of Russian attacks.
At a joint press conference, von der Leyen said he was pleased to join Washington’s Zelensky and other European leaders on Monday.

“We will continue to support you as long as it is necessary,” she said, adding that the EU is supporting a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia and the United States.
She warned that the EU would move forward next month with the 19th sanctions package against Russia if the Kremlin refuses to stop the war in Ukraine.
Trump: We will go straight to the Russian Ukraine Peace Contract. “It’s not just a ceasefire.”
Zelenskyy hopes that the upcoming meeting with Trump will be “productive” and not a repetition of the screams that took place in the oval office during his February visit.

Zelensky’s meeting at the White House comes shortly after Trump’s summit, where Russian leader Vladimir Putin held Anchorage on Friday, and Trump dropped demands for a ceasefire and urged a final peace deal.
After meeting with Putin, Trump said Russian leaders were willing to end the war in exchange for major Ukrainian territorial concessions. Trump said Kiev should make a deal with Moscow because “Russia is such a great force and not.”

Zelenskyy, alongside European leaders, has consistently rejected the proposal to abandon Ukrainian lands to Russia.
“The territorial issue is so important that it should only be discussed by the leaders of Russia and the three Russian Ukrainian Ukrainian and Russian leaders,” Zelensky told reporters for the European Commission on Sunday. “So far, Russia has given no indication that a trilateral situation will occur,” he added.
