Brooklyn, N.Y. — Zoran Mamdani told reporters on Sunday that the fatal shooting in New York City several hours ago was the latest example of the “scourge of gun violence” in the country’s most populous city.
New York Police Chief Jessica Tish confirmed that 12 casualties, including three deaths, are allegedly gang-related shootings in the taste of the city lounge in the Crown Heights section of Roses, with 12 casualties.
At the canvas launch event in the Prospect Park area, Mamdani told reporters the incident was “another example of the tragedy of gun violence that has made up a large part of our city.”
The New York City Democratic candidate said just three weeks ago that the city had experienced the deadliest mass shooting in 25 years, killing four people in midtown Manhattan before the gunman took his own life.

Mamdani called for investment in a very kind of programme and services that have proven effective in combating the epidemic of gun violence, particularly to expand what he called New York’s crisis management system.

The mayor’s candidate said Sunday that he was proposing to increase investment in the Community Safety Bureau.
Last month’s Manhattan shooting included Mamdani’s past comments, which called for the center stage at Gracie Mansion to refund the NYPD.

“My statement in 2020 was made in the frustration that many New Yorkers had in George Floyd’s murder,” Mamdani replied last month when reporters asked if they regretted his previous comments.
Mamdani has since roamed the police reimbursement stance, but his competitors, including former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, seized such comments, informing CNN that Mamdani doesn’t understand the “importance of the NYPD.”
When details were revealed about the fatal shooting in Brooklyn on Sunday, incumbent mayor Eric Adams, running as an independent, claimed his administration had stifled the crime by removing illegal guns from the streets.
“What I can tell you is that we will continue our aggressive pursuit to remove these illegal guns from our streets.

In a statement regarding the X, Cuomo called the incident “another horrible mass shooting.”
“My heart is directed at the victims and their loved ones. Public safety is always Job 1. This is not the time to refund or dismantle the police. We don’t need more officers to keep our community safe.”
Meanwhile, Curtis Swawa, CEO of the Guardian Angels, a Republican mayoral candidate, said “after this latest shooting, his thoughts will be with the victim and his family.”

“The Kuomo parent-life law creates this confusion, and Mamdani’s radical agenda only makes it worse. The status quo has failed. I am the only candidate who has the courage to restore law and order in NYC,” Swa said in a statement from X.
