Officials at Los Angeles headquarters for a Homeland Security investigation announced the arrests of dozens of people who illegally entered the United States early Monday morning.

In a previous Twitter post to X, HSI said that it received warnings from customs and border protection officials on boats running along the coast from Mexico to Long Beach.

Details are limited and it is unknown exactly where the HSI met Mexican citizens, but they said the operation was unfolding early on the anniversary and the immigrants were “abandoned to crafts of joy.”

“These 12 subjects were arrested for being illegally present in the United States,” the official added.

A Mexican immigrant “waived by Pleasure Craft” (HSI) was arrested in Long Beach on May 26, 2025.

In photos released by HSI, it appears that most of the immigrants are male, but there is at least one woman in the group. Many of them appear to have zip ties around their wrists, but they stand in front of a large white van, many of which are covered in foil blankets.

The arrest comes days after a Newport Beach Company executive was illegally in the United States and was arrested for $7 million embezzlement from his employer before returning to California after being previously deported in 2017.

HSI Los Angeles was also recently involved in arrests of 13 people related to officials described as violent Armenian crime syndicates with ties to the Russian mafia.

Authorities did not provide information on whether the vessel was registered in the United States or Mexico, or on the joy craft that was reportedly immigrated Monday morning.

No information has been provided regarding where federal immigration officials intend to detain migrants prior to their deportation back to Mexico.
