Family members identified the boy as Zachariah Diaz, a student at Central Middle School in Riverside.
The school’s principal also confirmed Zakaria’s death in a statement to the community shared with KTLA.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a Central Middle School student. Zachariah Diaz, an 8th grade student, died from injuries sustained in a house fire in Jurupa Valley on Saturday, December 7th.” Part of the statement reads:
The principal went on to describe Zakaria as “a very sweet student who enjoyed every aspect of school life. In Year 7, he played in the Intermediate band and his bandmates from last year are still his best friends. Most As one of the tallest students,” he said. You should see more of him than the other kids at Central, but he was truly a gentle giant, quick to smile and good-naturedly laugh. ”
Zakaria’s wake will be held at 6091 Mission Boulevard on Dec. 20 at 1 p.m.
