The footage shows someone leaving the vehicle, grabbing a white garbage bag and throwing it into a trash can near the 25,000 block of Cabot Road, about 7:20pm on Monday.
Animal Services officials were notified Tuesday of the injured animal suffering from obvious trauma and immediately took the cat to a local veterinary hospital.
The cat, named Willow, is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to recover, officials said.
“In spite of this heartbreaking betrayal, Willow continues to show great love for his veterinarian staff, seeking comfort from those who care for her and provide her with kindness and love,” Mission Viejo Animal Services said in a statement.
It is unclear when she will be available for adoption.
According to animal control investigators, the person’s vehicle was called a 2022-24 model, or a similar small SUV, a Model 2022-24, or a similar small SUV.
Anyone with information about the case is advised to contact Mission Vieho Animal Services at 949-470-3045.
