(News Nation) – Six women are scheduled to fly all of their first women into space on Monday for over half a century.
Members of the group that attracts attention – recording artists Katy Perry, journalists Gail King and Lauren Sanchez, former NASA scientist Aisha Bou, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerian Neuflin were in West Texas for several days to be suited to space lawsuits.
Blue Origin, the Rocket Company owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, announced the trip earlier this year. The flight has attracted a lot of attention on the gender of its crew, but in a solo mission in 1963, the first all-women’s journey to transcend atmosphere was achieved by Soviet-era astronaut Valentina Teleshkova.
The new Shepherd launch window on Monday will open a CT from 9:30am ET/8:30am, the company says.

All participants on this week’s flight on Blue Origin’s new Shepherd capsule expressed excitement at the opportunity.
“I feel invited, invited, invited, fascinated and honored by this incredible group of women,” Perry told The Associated Press last week.
Entry into space is expected to last for about 10 minutes. The private mission has been lightly corned by critics like actress Olivia Munn.
Blue Origin doesn’t promote prices online, but requires a deposit of $150,000 per seat.
It’s not all a fun game, despite critics might say. For example, Nguyen is conducting three experiments in space to support future generations of astronauts. Her research includes testing how quickly plants can grow in space and how astronauts deal with moisture.
“At the beginning of NASA, women were forbidden to become astronauts, and one of the reasons for being cited was menstruation, but there was no data to back it up. So my experiments would collect data to counter it,” Nguyen said recently.

Bezos’ Rocket Company Blue Origin announced its crew in February. Sanchez, a helicopter pilot and former television journalist, chose the woman to join her in spaceflight.
Blue Origin has flew tourists into space with short hops since 2021 after Bezos climbed with his brother for his first trip. Future travel will be the company’s 11th human spaceflight.
