California regulations allow residents over the age of 21 to legally grow up to six marijuana plants in their homes for personal use.
But warehousing tens of thousands of pounds remains clearly off-limits.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced this week that it had seized more than 90,000 pounds of marijuana from a property in the Hesperia area.
Sheriff’s deputies with the Marijuana Enforcement Team executed a search warrant Monday at a five-acre ranch in an isolated area in the 5000 block of Honey Hill Road.
At the property, officers found 3,000 black garbage bags inside a 120-by-40-foot metal building, authorities said. There were so many bags inside that they were stacked in a 12-foot-high pile, the sheriff’s office said.
Each bag contained processed marijuana, which authorities estimated weighed between 30 and 50 pounds.
It took sheriff’s officials two days and 51 truckloads of processed marijuana, assisted by county law enforcement and California Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel, to remove the processed marijuana. Authorities say the stash is worth an estimated $100 million.
No arrests have been made yet and the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately say whether the marijuana would be destroyed.
