Mayor Newark and Democratic governor hopeful Rus Baraka filed a lawsuit against interim US lawyers for Alina Haba, New Jersey on Tuesday, condemning false arrests and malicious charges in connection with the May 9 arrest and charges outside the federal immigration center.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, accused Haba of acting politically in his May 9 arrest outside the Delaney Hall detention center near Newar Liberty International Airport. Baraka was arrested after being arrested during a protest outside the facility and accused of evicting warnings from law enforcement officials. He was in custody for several hours before being released. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said 13 days after filing accusations against Baraka that it had dismissed the lawsuit “to move forward.”

The civil lawsuit filed by Baraka’s lawyers seeks what they described as “false arrests and malicious prosecutions” and what Haba allegedly made about his case, including social media. The lawsuit includes screenshots of Habba’s social media post in question… Read more
