Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem announced Tuesday that the entire wall across the southern border will be painted black as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to increase the wall’s effectiveness as a deterrent.
Speaking in front of parts of the southern boundary wall of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Noem explained that the walls are more heat-increasing and therefore difficult to climb, and are painted completely black to increase the lifespan of the metal.
Noem said a new paint job would arrive at President Donald Trump’s request.
“If you look at the structure behind me, it’s tall, very difficult to climb, and almost impossible, and you’ll also go deep into the ground.

“I understand that, especially at the president’s request, the hot temperatures here, and when something is painted black, it gets even warmer and makes it even more difficult for people to climb,” she added.
“So, we are going to make sure that we encourage individuals not to come to our country illegally and not to break federal laws in order to paint the entire wall of the entire southern border.
Noem believes that “one big, beautiful bill” handed over to Congress in July, allocated “an incredible resource” she said “can continue to build the wall.”
The secretary said the wall construction is progressing at a rate of nearly half a mile a day. In addition to the additional walls and new painting jobs, Noem said management is also investing in technology, cameras, sensors and waterborne infrastructure.

She also said the administration is concentrated not only on the southern border, but also on the north, saying “we are doing due diligence to secure every inch of the border.”
“Remember that a country without borders is not a nation at all,” she said. “We are very grateful that we have a president who understands that and understands that safe borders are important to our country’s future.”
Noem was joined by several Border Patrol agents and officials, including interim chief patrol agents for Walters Rosser of El Paso Sector. He shared that agents in the sector arrest an average of 41 people per day, compared to 2,300 people a day under the Biden administration in 2023.
Slosar said Gotaway’s seven-day average in the sector is now nine years old. He said that most of the people arrested were single adults in Mexico, Guatemala and Ecuador.
Agents remained simply by “observing” the migrants passing under Biden, but Slosar said the illegals were “running from us.”

“We arrest those individuals. Our Gotaway is the lowest ever. And we are working with the Department of Justice… We are filing criminal charges on the individuals applying the results. [Enforcement and Removal Operations] They exclude those individuals from the United States. ”

Slosar said the morale of Border Patrol agents in the El Paso sector was “because we are working in national security and keeping the area safe.”
“The words and messages are important. It’s not okay to enter the country illegally. Someone is finally saying it’s our leadership in our US government,” he said.
