Portraits begin to appear Tuesday of four people who lost their lives when the assault rifle gunman stormed and fired an office building in Midtown Manhattan on Monday. The NFL employee who was shot was seriously injured but survived and was said to be in stable condition in the end.
On Tuesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul ordered a flag in the state government building and ordered the flight to be made semi-staffed in honor of the victims. The governor’s office said it would remain lowered until each of the victims is placed for rest.
“Yesterday, New York lost four innocent lives in a horrifying act of violence,” Hochul said in a statement. “Among them was Didarul Islam, a 31/2 year veteran NYPD officer who left eight months pregnant and two young sons.
“The killer used an AR-15-style attack rifle. The same war weapon used in large-scale gunfires across America.
The 27-year-old Las Vegas shooter, who has a “documented history of mental health,” took his own life, officials say. Investigators are still stitching together their motivations.

Wesley Lepatner, Blackstone Real Estate Executive
Blackstone real estate executive Wesley Repatner was killed in a shooting on July 28, 2025 in a midtown Manhattan office building.
Investment company Blackstone confirmed Repatner’s death in a statement Tuesday. She was 43 years old.
“We are heartbroken to share that our colleague Wesley Repatner was among those who lost their lives in the tragic incident at 345 Park Avenue,” the company said in a statement. “Words cannot describe the devastation we feel. Wesley is a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be overlooked badly.”
“She was wonderful, passionate, warm, generous and deeply respected, beyond our company,” he continued. “She embodied the best black stone.” Our prayers are with husband, children and family. He is also saddened by the loss of other innocent victims, including brave security guards and the NYPD. ”
Lepatner served on several committees, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Abraham Joshua Heshel School, and the UJA-federation in New York. Most recently, at Blackwell, she served as global head of Core+ Real Estate and CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT).
The executive committee president and Hechel’s principal emailed the community where Repatner was deceased.
“Wesley was murdered at Blackstone where she worked. Wesley was the mother of Jonathan, a seventh grader. He was friends with Emerson’s mother, Evan’s wife, Larry and Erin Mittman’s daughter, and many beloved relatives,” the statement partially stated. “There is no right word for this immeasurable moment of pain and loss. It was a rare z’chut, a rare privilege to know Wesley and learn from her.”
Lepatner was also a member of the Blackstone Real Estate Investment Committee. She previously served as Core+ Business’s Chief Operating Officer, similar to Breit. Before joining Blackstone in 2014, Lepatner spent more than a decade at Goldman Sachs. She received her Bachelor of History from Yale.
The Blackstone office on 345 Park Avenue will be closed to employees on Tuesday, the company told NBC News.
Didarul Islam, NYPD executive

NYPD officer Didarul Islam was killed in a shooting on July 28, 2025 in a midtown Manhattan office building.
The murdered officer is a 36-year-old Islam, a Bangladesh immigrant who has been a police officer in New York City for more than three years, police officer Jessica Tish said at a press conference.
Islam leaves two young boys behind, and his wife is pregnant with a third child, Tish said.
“He was doing the job we asked him to do. He harmed himself. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” the police chief said at a press conference Monday night. “He died while he lived. Hero.”

Aaland Etienne, security guard
Police sources confirmed Tuesday that the 46-year-old man shot in the lobby was among the dead.
Manny Pastelic, International Union Chairman of 32BJ Service Employees, identified the individual as Aland Etienne in a statement.
“We are in touch with Aland Etienne’s family and work with Building Management and the NYPD to support the investigation,” the statement said. “We ensure that members in the building receive the free union counseling and support services they deserve and manage this indescribable loss.”
“This tragedy speaks to the sacrifices of New Yorkers and security guards who risk their lives every day to keep our buildings safe,” it continued. “Every time a security guard wears uniform, they stop their lives. Their contributions to the city are often unappreciated, but our contributions to the city are essential. Aland Etienne is a New York hero.
27-year-old female, employee at Rudin Management
Police sources also confirmed that the 27-year-old woman was among the dead, shot on the 33rd floor. Her name has not been released. Rudin Management has identified her as one of her own.
It issued a statement on behalf of the company and withheld the employee’s name at the request of her family.
“The Rudins and everyone in our company are devastated by the pointless tragedy of yesterday,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and lost people last night, including our precious Rudin colleagues, brave New York City police officers, beloved lobby security guards, and tenant company employees.”
“We are grateful for the prompt and courageous action of the NYPD, FBI, EMS and several other emergency responders,” it continued. “We also thank the mayor and the police chief’s leader. The building remains closed today as the authorities continue their investigation. As New Yorkers, we stand shoulder to shoulder in the face of this hatred and we pray for the full recovery of those injured.”
