Police body camera footage shows the moment a Florida trooper rescued a 3-year-old from submerging in a cold lake.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Thursday in the 6200 block of South Falls Circle Drive, according to Lauderhill police. Officers responded to a report of a child running toward the lake.

When officers arrived, the child was submerged in water up to his waist.

The footage shows an officer reaching for the child, pulling him out of the water and handing him over to another officer.

Police said the child’s mother arrived at the scene shortly after the rescue and determined the child had wandered.

The child was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

“Thanks to the quick and courageous actions of our officers, a young child was rescued from what could have been a tragic situation,” Police Chief Constance Stanley said in a statement. “While we are grateful for this positive outcome, it highlights a situation that could have been prevented with increased awareness and precautions.”

Lauderhill Police also reminded parents that:

Supervise young children at all times Secure their environment Teach water safety early Recognize special needs Communicate with neighbors
