Police confirmed that Burbank’s wastewater treatment plant was evacuated after an employee died on property.
A medical call was sent around 12:45pm on Friday after the employee was found to not respond, according to the Burbank Police Department.
Police and firefighters arrived at the Burbank Water Reclamation Factory in the 700 block of North Lake Street and declared an employee dead.
Detectives responded to the investigation, but officials said the cause of death remained unknown at the time of the police station’s latest public update.
“As a type of facility (wastewater treatment plants), and as a precautionary measure, the Burbank Fire Department has decided to evacuate the facility, so the dangerous materials team can carefully and ensure that there are no materials that can pose a threat to other employees and the public,” the department announced.
Officials said the employee’s identity will not be released as they have pending permission from the LA County Coroner and are following the required notice next door.
