Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was arrested for a weapons violation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said.

Perryman was arrested Friday after being handed over for a traffic violation at around 9:30pm in Inglewood, LASD said. The authorities did not specify what the violation was.

“During a traffic stop, the lawmakers discovered five firearms in Mr. Perryman’s vehicle, two of which were assault-style rifles. He was arrested, booked and worked with deputies on charges of weapons violations,” the department added.

Perryman is in custody without bail at Sheriff’s South Los Angeles Station and is scheduled to appear in court in Inglewood on Tuesday.

On Saturday, his agent released the following statement to nfl.com:

“Denzel is a respected veteran of the NFL, a dedicated father, teammate and expert. He has not underestimated this situation, but I am sure the matter will be resolved fairly in accordance with the law.”

The charger has not issued a statement regarding Perryman’s arrest.
