A man was arrested after authorities say he intentionally crashed his car into a deputy after a chase in San Bernardino County.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Steven Bloomer, 52, of Twentynine Palms, has been arrested in connection with the vandalism.
Shortly before 1 p.m. on Dec. 16, a police officer spotted the suspect’s Corvette speeding on Twentynine Palms Highway near the intersection of Torres Avenue in Joshua Tree.
Authorities tried to pull him over, but he refused and led a patrol in pursuit.
Officers said they called off the pursuit for the safety of other drivers as he continued to drive erratically and speeding on the road.
Later that day, a California Highway Patrol trooper spotted Bloomer and his Corvette at a Circle K in Morongo Valley. CHP officers attempted to detain the man, but at that moment the man reversed his Corvette and struck a CHP vehicle.

A second lieutenant arrived on the scene and parked his patrol car near the Circle K parking lot. A third lieutenant was in the car.
At that moment, the suspect stepped on the gas pedal and accelerated, plowing directly into the occupied police car, officials said. The deputy inside suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was later released.
Bloomer was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder of a peace officer and serious assault on a peace officer.
This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Detective Richard Maldonado or Detective Tyler A. Bengard of the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Office at 760-366-4175.
