(NEXSTAR) – Late night legend Conan O’Brien’s parents, Dr. Thomas O’Brien and Dr. Ruth R. O’Brien, both passed away within days of each other at their home in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Dr. O’Brien’s death on December 9 was earlier reported in an article published in the Boston Globe praising his work on antimicrobial resistance. Dr. O’Brien was the first chief of infectious diseases at what is now Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and co-founder of the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Center for Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance, the Globe reported.

Conan O’Brien also told the newspaper that his father was “the funniest guy” in the room.
“And when he laughed, my whole body spasmed and I almost hugged myself,” he said.

On December 12, just days after Dr. O’Brien passed away at the age of 95, his wife of more than 60 years, Ruth O’Brien, passed away at the age of 92 at their home in Brookline.
Ruth O’Brien was a talented attorney, according to an obituary posted by Belle O’Dea Funeral Home in Brookline. Ruth O’Brien, a graduate of Yale Law School, worked to become the second-ever female partner at Boston-based international law firm Ropes & Gray.
Conan O’Brien often speaks on his current podcast and in previous interviews about his parents and the loving but somewhat busy household in which he and his extended family grew up.
“I had six kids, two dogs, a cat, a grandmother, and a parakeet. I’m not kidding,” O’Brien once said in a 2017 video celebrating her mother’s award. spoke. “That house was kind of crazy at times. It’s nice madness, but it’s still madness.”
