Numerous law enforcement officers were seen Thursday at a home in a gated community in Calabasas. Property records show the house is connected to the ex-wife of Dr. Hamid Mirshoje, an internist who was killed in an ambush outside his office in Woodland. Hills in August.
Around noon, a long line of unmarked cars and SUVs entered the complex, and NewsChopper4 aerial footage showed officers wearing assault jackets with the word “Police” written on them surrounding and inside a home on Newcastle Lane. It was shown that he was there.
The raids came just before prosecutors filed murder charges against the man, woman and third person arrested earlier this week, alleging that they carried out the murder for financial gain.
Evan Hardman, 41, was arrested in Houston, Texas and was being held on an unrelated warrant. A criminal complaint filed against him in the murder accuses him of ambushing and personally using a gun.
Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40, was arrested in the San Fernando Valley and was being held in the Los Angeles County Jail without bail, records show. The complaint filed against her accuses her of being an accessory after the fact.
The third person indicted, identified in court records as Sarala Joad, is charged with murder for financial gain and assault with a weapon other than a firearm.
The Los Angeles Police Department had no comment and said the investigation into the doctor’s murder is ongoing and complex.
Dr. Hamid Mirshoje was shot and killed in August as he left his emergency clinic on Topanga Canyon Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley.
Detectives said at the time that they believed he was a particular target of the attack.
Los Angeles Police Department detectives and other officials declined Wednesday to share information about what led to Hardman and Sweeting, explaining that there are “many important parts” to the investigation and that more will be announced in the coming days. He explained that he would like to provide more detailed information.
