LONDON (AP) – A 53-year-old British man cultivated a minivan to a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans arrested on Monday to celebrate the City team’s Premier League Championship, police said.

There were no immediate comments from authorities regarding the number of injured people. Ambulances and other emergency vehicles flocked to the scene to respond to reports of multiple pedestrians being attacked.

“It was very fast,” said Harry Rashid, who was parading with his wife and two young daughters. “In the beginning, I just heard pop, pop, pop, pop from people being knocked out of the hood of a car.”

Prime Minister Kiel Starmer said he was updated with the situation and thanked the police for his prompt response.

“The Liverpool scene is horrifying. My idea is with everyone who is injured or affected,” Starge said.

Liverpool fans have come to tens of thousands to celebrate the team that won the Premier League this season.

Liverpool’s last league title came in 2020, but supporters were denied the opportunity to publicly celebrate the trophy due to restrictions at the time during the pandemic.

Dancing, scarves and flag waving fans were brave in the rain and able to climb the traffic lights lined up in the streets and take in the views of Liverpool players on two buses holding the words “Our Again.”

A long time line surrounded by thick layers of police and safety, rammed along a 10-mile (16-kilometer) route, passing through a sea of red smoke and rain. The fireworks exploded from the royal liver building in the heart of the city, appearing to mark the end of the parade.

The team issued a brief statement that their ideas and prayers are with those affected.

Rashid said the car stopped after plunging into the first victim and the crowd began charging the vehicle and destroying the windows.

“But then he put his feet down again and plowed the rest, and he just kept going,” Rashid said. “It was horrifying, and you could hear the bumps as he was watching people.”

Rashid said it looked intentional and he was shocked and distrustful.

“My daughter started screaming, and there was someone on the ground,” he said. “They are just innocent people, they just have fans enjoying the parade.”
