The head of the Oklahoma public school system supports President Donald Trump’s executive order, dismantling the federal department of education, saying that Trump “takes history away as the president who saved education.”
Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced a dramatic “power cut” for the Federal Department of Education, and announced a detailed plan to cut the agency’s size by more than 50% from around 4,1333 to around 2,183 employees.
Trump has previously said he hopes to “close the Department of Education completely” and “return education back to the state.”
When Democrats and media outlets hear warnings that Trump’s change means fate for education in America, Oklahoma’s public leadership superintendent Ryan Walters says Trump’s move is exactly what students, parents and the nation need right now.
“This is a historic moment,” he said. “I think President Trump will diminish history in history as the president who saved education and the country’s future.”

Rather than helping to implement an effective education system, Walters said the Department of Education is promoting diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and other left-wing ideologies in the state, including Oklahoma.
“The disruption in education was the federation of education and the organisation of education, which has distressed us from the concept of schools that values community, families, and individuals,” he said. “There are thousands of bureaucrats who are pushing for the left-wing agenda. This is the most radical agenda we’ve ever seen. They teach their children to hate the country. They teach their children to hate the faith.”
“You can tell teachers about the type of training the Fed has requested them to go,” he continued. “These didn’t help promote student achievement in the classroom. It was about pushing the left-wing agenda to children.”

After taking office in January 2023, Walters said he must deal with the Biden Department of Education immediately, using federal funds as leverage to promote concepts such as DEI and gender ideology in the classroom.
“Were we very keen in my response to why we were talking about transgenderism in one class of algebra? So there’s no relationship between the two, it shows that they want to move on to the ideology they’ve awakened, and undermine strategies and family units that undermine American society,” he said.
The results were shown in student test scores, Walters said.
“All test scores show that they’ve all gotten worse since this confusion happened,” he explained. “Almost all social factors are getting worse. We’re looking at suicide in teens. We’re looking at drug use in teens. We’re looking at the collapse of family units. All of this coincided with the creation of the Federal Department of Education and the rise of teacher unions.”

Walters expects cutting the education sector will free up a ton of funds that go directly to student education and teachers, instead of paying bureaucratic salaries.
He pointed to the cuts he made to the Oklahoma Education Department, where he reduced the state’s bureaucracy with 150 employees, saving millions of people, creating opportunities to mentor the program, and providing more competitive salaries to provide more competitive salaries.
“You’re going to see that, the Federal Department of Education and a thousand people’s time,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tiffany Justice, co-founder of the parental rights group Moms for Liberty, assured that “your child’s education is not affected by these things.”

“Don’t believe the union’s topic, fearful lies are lying,” Justice said in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Union is concerned because eliminating the Ministry of Education, or dismantling it, cutting half of its staff only means more power for parents.”

“Since the establishment of the Ministry of Education, students’ achievements have only declined,” she said. “We are in a real crisis. I think the fact that most American children have not learned to read is one of the biggest national security threats we face as a nation.”
“If you’re watching mainstream media or fake news, you’re listening to the point of stories that are afraid of those unions, as President Trump likes to say. They’re saying, ‘Yeah, this will hurt teachers, this will hurt services.’ I couldn’t get far from the truth,” she continued. “I think every state has a ministry of education and leaders in every state should really see this as an opportunity to show a vision for education, and we need to implement that vision and make sure the kids in their states are learning,” Justice said.
Around 20 Democratic attorney generals are currently suing the Trump administration to stop the Department of Education’s cuts.
Speaking to Fox News, National Education Association Chairman Becky Pringle said the Trump administration was “outrageous” that it was “set to thwart the Department of Education.” She argued that the move “will ignore our students, our parents, our community, and… the future of this country.”
