This week, a former LAPD officer and reserve officer were arrested on bail and awaited trial in an insurance fraud case.
According to prison records, Eric Harlem, who joined the department in the 1990s and left full-time employment in 2022, was in custody without bail.
LAPD declined on Friday to explain his detention.
“The Los Angeles Police Department can confirm that the recent arrest of former LAPD reserve Eric Harlem is not related to the department’s investigation into housing robbery in West Valley,” the statement mentions another news report.
“This issue remains under investigation and will not provide any details at this time,” the LAPD statement said.
Harem, 37, and his younger brother were charged with felony insurance fraud earlier this year after the California Department of Insurance accused the California Department of Insurance of filing fraudulent claims, allegedly linked to Harem’s business of renting luxury goods and exotic cars.
Harem and his brother pleaded not guilty in May and were scheduled for court this week for hearing.
According to prison records, Harem was arrested by members of the LAPD Robbery and Murder Division at 3pm on Thursday.
