Federal officials announced that around 200 workers were arrested in two attacks on a cannabis farm in Southern California on Thursday.
“On July 10, 2025, federal law enforcement officials carried out criminal warrant activities in marijuana. The marijuana cultivation facility grows infield and Camarillo sites,” reads a statement issued by the Department of Homeland Security. “During the operation, at least 10 immigrant children were rescued from potential exploitation, forced labor and human trafficking. Federal officials also arrested about 200 illegal aliens from both Carpinteria and Camarillo sites.”
During operation, more than 500 demonstrators gathered at two glasshouse farm sites that take workers and families from the farm in protest against U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, according to DHS.
The protest on the Ventura County Farm escalated around 12:35pm when officers deployed tear gas and a non-fatal round to a crowd of protesters who blocked the roads on both the north and south Laguna roads. Paramedics responded to the scene and set up a triage system for people injured by tear gas at a safe distance from ongoing operations.
United Farm Worker also issued a statement Friday, confirming that the worker was seriously injured when he described it as a “confusing attack,” and that “no other workers, including US citizens, have been booked at all.”
“Our staff are on the ground supporting families,” union officials said. “Many workers, including US citizens, have been detained by federal authorities on the farm for more than eight hours. US citizen workers report being released only after being forced to delete photos and videos of the attack from phone calls.”
The organization also called for an end to the immigrant sweep, describing the attack as “violent and cruel” and calling it “terrorizing American communities, disrupting American food supply chains, threatening lives, separate families.”

Regarding the violence that took place between agents and protesters, the DHS said four US citizens were criminally disposed of to assault or resist an officer, and one demonstrator allegedly fired guns with ICE and CBP agents. The FBI offers a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspected shootings.
“During the surgery, a violent agitator fired a gun at a brave officer,” Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin said. “Ice and CBP officials are being attacked by dodging rioters and bullets to save children, while sanctuary politicians are demonizing Ice and CBP. We’ll attack and dox federal law enforcement to the fullest extent of the law.”

According to DHS, Glass House Farms is currently under investigation for alleged child labor violations. The company issued a statement Friday morning saying “Glashouse has never intentionally violated any applicable employment practices and does not employ minors.” Glasshouse also said it is fully working with the ice in accordance with the law and is working to help workers provide legal representatives. “We don’t think this will affect the operation that advances.”
United farm workers also said they were aware of reports of child labour on the site, demanding legal representatives for small workers, adding, “To be clear: detaining children and deporting them is not a solution to child labour.”
McLaughlin’s comments on “Sanctuary Politicians” include comments that include actions by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass after a statement with local and state leaders and a press conference morning in opposition to a massive operation.

In a post from X, the Department of Homeland Security responded to Newsom, asking, “Why do you have children who work in marijuana facilities?” The governor later responded in another X-Post, saying, “We will prosecute offenders who break the Child Labour Act. You will pose for photos and host them, and promote these laws,” and attached a screenshot with the headline to an article on child labor violations.
Around the same time as before and after social media, Bass held a press conference where she issued and signed a new executive order aimed at strengthening urban protections in immigrant communities, in the wake of what she described as an “illegal and chaotic” federal immigrant raid across the region.
Meanwhile, Glasshouse Farm in Ventura County saw family members and dozens of people still standing outside the facility on Friday morning, hoping to be reunited with a loved one who is in custody or perhaps still hidden.

The Camarillo raid coincided with a second federal operation at the site of another glass house in Carpinteria about 50 miles northwest. Salud Carbajal, D-Santa Barbara, of the district, including Carpinteria, attempted to access the site but was turned away by an agent. He later criticized him for describing him as a “troubling lack of transparency” from federal authorities.
“These militarized ice attacks are not a way to keep our community safe,” Carvajal said. “This kind of confusion only hurts families and tears the community.”
Regarding DHS’ response to the massive federal immigration attack, he concluded the statement saying, “An investigation into immigration and potential child labour violations is ongoing. Information will be released when it becomes available.”
