Colton firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire in the Santa Ana Riverbed Tuesday morning as the strongest winds in years hit Southern California.
The fire was reported around 5 a.m. near Riverside Avenue and had burned about an acre by the time firefighters arrived.

The fire broke out at a homeless encampment and showed makeshift buildings and other personal property on fire as small trees swayed in the wind, the video showed.
At least one RV and several other vehicles appeared to have been destroyed in the fire, which crews feared could spread to more than 20 acres, freelance media company OnScene.TV reported. That’s what it means.
No injuries were reported as a result of this fire.
The fires come as Southern California braces for what officials describe as “life-threatening,” “extreme” and “destructive” wind events expected to last through Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag for much of Southern California on Tuesday and Wednesday over concerns that a small spark could turn into an out-of-control wildfire.
The official cause of the fire has not been determined.
