A fitness influencer was shot and killed during an attempted robbery outside her West Los Angeles home three months ago.
Miguel Angel Aguilar, founder and CEO of Self Made Training, was in critical condition after the Sept. 13 shooting in the 11400 block of North Thurston Circle. He was hospitalized due to the condition. He passed away on Saturday, according to a statement posted on his Instagram.
“Miguel was more than just a leader. He was a visionary, an inspiration, a mentor, a father, a husband, a family man, and a dear friend to many. ” reads the statement. “His unwavering dedication to his homegrown training facility, passion for the fitness industry, and entrepreneurial spirit left a lasting legacy.”
In September, Aguilar and his wife encountered armed men in their driveway who demanded their property, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. During the attempted robbery, one of the men fired at Aguilar, hitting him in the head.
The suspects fled the scene, and one of them, later identified as Mario Melara, was seriously injured during the crash. Melara later died from his injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Jason Melara, Damony Johnson, and Maki Taylor were arrested on October 10 in Northern California on charges of shooting and attempted robbery.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later charged the three suspects with multiple felonies, including murder, attempted murder, attempted robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
