Former UCLA Police Chief John Thomas has retired from the school’s police department.
In a post on X Wednesday night, UCLA police said Dec. 10 was Thomas’ last day at the university.
He had been criticized for overseeing pro-Palestinian protests on the UCLA campus in the spring.

UCLA announced that current interim Chief Scott Scheffler will continue in his role until another permanent police chief is selected.
“We hope that the police officers we see on campus and in the surrounding area, as well as our behind-the-scenes support staff, will provide excellent customer service.The Police Department also supports two student-run programs dating back to the 1970s. ” Scheffler said. said in a statement posted on UCLA’s website.
