A former KNBC television producer was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to a federal charge of “knowing possession” of child pornography.
Philip A. Drexler was sentenced to 15 years of post-release supervision, ordered to register as a sex offender and pay a $20,000 fine.
Drexler, 61, has been held without bail since his arrest in April 2023 and will receive credit for time spent in custody.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a plea agreement earlier this year that Drexler distributed four video files depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct in 2021 and posted the files online. He admitted that he had downloaded the files from the website and that he knew the minors. Those shown were under 12 years of age.
The court was provided with two impact statements for consideration before sentencing, but at the request of prosecutors, the statements were filed under seal and their names withheld from public court records.
Mr. Drexler worked at KNBC Television from 2012 to February 2023.
