Almost two-thirds of Americans support an increased involvement in international affairs, according to a newly released annual summer survey by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute.
The survey, conducted by voting companies Beacon Research and Shaw and Company Research, marks the third year that the Ronald Reagan Institute conducted a summer survey asking Americans about their attitudes towards foreign policy. It turns out that 64% of Americans support the entire United States, which plays a leadership role in international affairs, which has increased by more than 20% since 2023.
New research shows that even the Republican Americans’ first Magawing, in contrast to isolationism, tend to have a strong support across both parties, as opposed to isolationism. Meanwhile, 69% of Republicans support the idea and 65% of Democrats, the survey found.
The investigation came within a day when the Trump administration ordered a massive surprise strike against Iran’s nuclear sites in a move designed to discourage Iran’s nuclear weapons infrastructure. “Americans have not retreated from the world,” the survey introduction states. “They gather around foreign policy based on peace through strength, strong alliances and morality in foreign policy.”
A summer survey conducted prior to the recent Israeli airstrikes in Iran shows that if diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran were made, 45% of those questioned that they supported Israeli targeting airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities were asked. Meanwhile, 37% said they opposed Israeli airstrikes, while 18% said they were unsure.
Partisan affiliation was not a factor when survey respondents were generally asked whether the US should lead on the international stage, but they appeared to play a greater role in their opinions on Iran-related involvement. Sixty percent of Republicans said they supported Israeli airstrikes, but their support fell to 35% among independents and 32% among Democrats.

In addition to attitudes about US leadership in global operations around the world, the annual summer survey from the Ronald Reagan Institute also covers other foreign policy-related questions related to human rights, trade, and defense spending.
One question was asked to measure the desire for “territorial expansion.” President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in acquiring strategic assets such as Greenland and the Panama Canal, but there is even a possibility of gaining control of the Gaza Strip amid ongoing issues surrounding terrorism.

The survey found that 55% of Americans supported the pursuit of the Panama Canal, while 47% supported the move to acquire Greenland.
However, there is a serious distinction between Republicans and Democrats on the issue, with most Democrats opposed and the majority of Republicans support territorial expansion. Speaking of the Gaza Strip, only 33% of survey respondents indicated they were in favor of this move, including 24% of Democrats and 47% of Republicans.
