The flames broke out before 2pm behind a one-storey home in the 9200 block of Encino Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a news release.

It took only an hour for 55 firefighters and helicopters on the ground to drop water from the water to extinguish the flames, firefighters said in the update.

Three structures of two sheds and accessories residential units have been destroyed, like many backyards.

“A firefighter suffered a serious hand tear during the battle,” the firefighter said. “In good condition, he will be taken to a community hospital for primary care. No other firefighters or civilian injuries have been reported.”

The department said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the chief of the battalion on the scene told KTLA that he believes a gardener using weeds set vegetation in the backyard of the house.

James Ramos contributed to this report.
