When will the last full moon of 2024 occur?
The last full moon of the year, the so-called cold moon, will be visible in Los Angeles on December 15th. The moon will appear nearly full for about two days on either side of that day.
The full moon officially becomes full at 1:01 a.m. This could be either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, depending on how you look at it. The moon will be visible in the western sky until 7:28 a.m., after which it will set below the horizon and rise again in the east at 5:02 p.m.
How to see the last full moon of 2024
In general, the clearer the sky, the more likely you are to catch all kinds of celestial events. The moon is bright enough that it’s still visible even in LA’s worst light pollution. But to truly admire the moon’s brightness, you need to step away from the city lights and find a dark spot where you can look up at the sky. Los Angeles has a lot of wide open spaces, so you’ll have no problem finding the ideal viewing spot. Keep in mind that more or less the sky will be clear in the east by midnight and after that.
