The day the “American Idol” music director and her musician’s husband were shot dead at Encino’s home, the Los Angeles Police Department received two 911 robbery calls regarding the property, a law enforcement source told The Times. However, it was not four days later that the officer found the bodies of Robin Kay and her husband Tom DeLuca inside.

LA police responded to reports of possible break-in at 4pm on July 10th and determined that nothing would appear at the couple’s residence, according to Los Angeles Police Department Geigolan.

Walking officers reported that the property was locked and no one responded internally. A helicopter was used to investigate the scene from above, and no doubt was seen.

Kay and Delca’s bodies were finally found Monday when officers responded to welfare checks at the couple’s home in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue.

The next day, LAPD and FBI Task Force officials arrested 22-year-old Raymond Boudarian in connection with the murder, Golan said.

Court records show that Boudarian was charged last year with three cases of misdemeanor battery. These charges were eventually removed after a series of hearings related to his mental abilities and investigations of the reserve.

The killings appeared random, Golan said, but investigators were searching for a relationship between the suspect and Delca and Kay.

Kay and Delca were shot multiple times in separate rooms and locked the door behind him before the gunman escaped on foot, police said. The couple’s home was well strengthened, but the suspects were able to enter through an unlocked door.

“He was there for about 30 minutes,” Golan said. “When the homeowners returned to their residence, a violent struggle continued between them and the suspect. The suspect was already inside the house, causing the victim to tragically lose his life.”

When officers returned to the scene Monday around 2:30pm, they were provided with a gate code to enter the property and found blood in the front door, Golan said.

The officer broke the glass window and entered the house and found the body inside.

Golan said the couple will investigate why the 70 couples were not previously discovered and why the officials involved acted appropriately. LAPD officials said the front door of the house was not visible from the outside during the initial response.

After the body was found, LAPD detectives recovered a security recording showing Boudarian entered the property on July 10, Golan said.

The video, along with forensic evidence, allowed them to identify him and tie him to a shooting, according to Golan. A handgun was found at the suspect’s home, police told KABC. “We believe it’s a murder weapon,” Golan told the news outlet.

On June 27, 2024, Boudarian pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor battery charges. On the same day, he was charged with a battery by a person, displaying deadly weapons and threatening to commit a crime with intent to be fearful. The third misdemeanor battery is said to have occurred in February 2024.

All of these charges were removed in December and followed court cases related to Boudarian’s mental health.

Crime has gone down significantly across Los Angeles, but a series of deadly robberies at a San Fernando Valley home has some residents.

Last week’s fatal incident at Encino echoes of two other murders in which police were unable to immediately find a murder victim despite 911’s call for crimes that unfold at a specific address.

Menashe Hydra’s body was found on April 26th in his fifth-floor valley village apartment after assailants broke into a nearby unit and jumped onto his squad from the balcony to attack him, investigators said.

Three days ago, the neighbor called 911 and reported that he had heard screams and the struggle from the apartment. The officer answered those calls, knocked on the door, and left without finding anything.

Eric Escamilla, 27, was eventually charged with murder, along with unrelated murders from 2022.

The same day Hydra’s body was found, police found the body of Alexandre Maudbaze, who had been beaten and died inside a Woodland Hills home. In that case, law enforcement sources said a woman inside the house was called LAPD around 12:30am, reporting that three people had broken into her home and beating her important others before suddenly cutting out. The 911 operator tried to make multiple calls without success. Shortly before 1am, officers arrived at the house, but no one answered the door. There was no noise inside the house and the blinds were dropping, sources told The Times.

ModeBadze was later found by an officer who was severely beaten with a traumatic head injury and eventually died from his injury.

Authorities discovered the suspicious killer of ModeBadze hours after the incident.

After Kay’s death, her companions recall the veteran music supervisor.

According to IMDB, she was a music producer for “American Idol” especially from 2009 to 2023, working on nearly 300 episodes.

Diddy Benami, a singer-songwriter and former “Idol” contestant, said in her Instagram story on Tuesday that Kay is “one of the kindest souls I’ve ever had the privilege of working for.”

Her credits also included several “Miss Universe” television specials, numerous NAACP Image Awards ceremonies, “The Singing Bee” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

Deluca was the most famous singer-songwriter for her 1986 album Down To the Wire. His latest release was the 2022 album Street Rock.

In a statement shared with the Times Tuesday, a “American Idol” spokesman said the team behind the singing competition was “devastated” by the news of the couple’s death, and that Kay recalls Kay as the “ground of the “idol” family.”

The statement continued:[Kaye] He was truly loved and respected by everyone who came into contact with her. Robin stays with us forever and we share deep sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time. ”

New data shows that murders across Los Angeles fell by more than 20% in the first half of the year, with the lowest total in its crime categories in nearly 60 years, with the city ending in 2025.
