Will Little Star Power help bring back the struggles of downtown restaurant scene? Actor and writer Issa Ray, along with Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Lelan, houses a Hilltop coffee + kitchen and opens a pizzeria and bar on 718 South Hill Street in the same historic 20th century building where the rooftop cocktails and taco bars that opened in September are lost.
Named Downtown Dough, the restaurant’s menu features dishes that incorporate seasonal produce and centers around the space’s wood pizza oven. Think classic and nostalgia-inducing dishes like cheesy garlic bread made from toasted focaccia, crispy old bay calamari and banana pudding tiramisu. Guests can also expect a clever twist of cauliflower pizza and lobster pasta.
Two years ago, GVO Hospitality, a group owned by Hagos and Relan, first debuted the fourth location in the Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen in Space. Now, after 6pm, the venue will bounce back into the 179-seat downtown fabric.

Ray had previously worked with GVO Hospitality at Somerville, a soul food-inspired jazz club that opened last fall.
The first day of Dough’s downtown service is scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd. Be careful about Opentable reservations.
