Jim Carrey’s return to Hollywood was very profitable.
In fact, a break from Tinseltown turned out to be just what the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 actor needed to give his career a new perspective.
“I think every time you walk away from something, even if it’s something you love, you gain a new appreciation for it,” Carey exclusively told E! Magazine. News’ Francesca Amicar at the Los Angeles premiere on December 16: ‘I saw the whole thing from a different angle’
As the 62-year-old explained, he never took himself “too seriously,” so he enjoyed his time off.
Additionally, this move gave his fans a chance to actually miss him.
“I also value being in people’s faces,” Carey said in an interview aired on E! News Dec. 17, 11 p.m. “I mean, some people just want to be in people’s faces all the time, and I’m not like that, so I want to give them a break.”

The “Truman Show” star especially thanked his fans for sticking by him over the years, adding, “I’m grateful. I’m happy.”
Carrey recently came out of retirement to star in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which opens on December 20th, and isn’t just because he’s excited to reprise his role as Doctor Robotnik (and his grandfather Gerard). I joked that there wasn’t. (Robotnik): There were also more practical reasons.
“I bought a lot of things. Frankly, I need the money,” he told The Associated Press.
This candid confession comes two years after the How the Grinch Stole Christmas alum first discussed retiring from acting for good.
“I’m being pretty serious,” he said. Access Hollywood, March 2022. “If the angels brought me some kind of script written in golden ink that told me it was very important for people to see, I might continue on that path. But… I’m going to take a break.”
As Carey explained at the time, he greatly enjoyed his “quiet life” and spent time painting and concentrating on his “spiritual life.”
“That’s enough,” he said. “I’ve done enough. Enough is enough.”
