The City of Los Angeles controller has released data showing local taxpayers are spending more than $30 million in recent protests over federal immigration attacks.
In a post on X on Friday, city controller Kenneth Mezia said as of June 17, the costs associated with the protests that rocked the city — mostly downtown LA — were $32,042,107.
Of that number, $29,533,243 comes from expenses related to the Los Angeles Police Department, and Mezia’s post includes a cost breakdown graph.

“$1.4 million is related to cleanup and damage to public property,” the Post elaborated.
Additional fire resources cost taxpayers $1,169,362, while other common and street services cost taxpayers $593,000 and $523,210, respectively.

Other costs include $85,713 for the Public Works Commission, $48,586 for the Tourism Department and $32,601 for street lighting.
Data shows an additional $56,393 was sent to other departments.
Mejia pointed out that the current figures do not include any potential lawsuits.
