Lisa Kudrow knows the late Matthew Perry will be by her side even after he’s gone.
The “Friends” alum recently revealed that her co-star, who died in October 2023 from the acute effects of ketamine, had left her a special note, but she didn’t think about it until after he passed away. I didn’t notice.
“Matthew gave it to me at the end of the last episode,” Kudrow said on the Jan. 7 episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” referring to the notable cookie jar prop that Perry took from the set. did. “I recently found a note he put in for me. I didn’t open it or look inside. But yeah, he did. He was there. I had put a note in it, and I had forgotten about it.”
Kudlow declined to reveal the contents of the memo, but added sentimentally: “Timing is everything.”
The No Good Deed star, who also co-starred with David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc on Friends, previously appeared in a clock-shaped box with the words “Cookie Time” written on it. He explained the significance behind the gift he received. ”
“We were filming scenes years before they were completed,” Kudrow said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2020. “My line was, ‘Oh, I’m late. I’d better go,’ and by the time I realized I didn’t have a watch, it was too late. When the words came out, I I thought, “Oh, there’s a clock,” and I gestured to it and said, “Oh, look at the time.” I’d better go. ”
After the scene, Perry reportedly approached her and asked, “Did you point to the cookie jar and say, ‘Look at the time?'” The revelation caused them to “laugh hysterically and then cry.”
It’s exactly that kind of laughter that Kudrow, who has a 26-year-old son, Julian, with husband Michelle Stern, remembers about Perry in the wake of his unexpected death.
“Thank you for making me laugh so hard with the things you said. Every day my muscles hurt and tears streamed down my face,” she wrote in a November 2023 memorial post on Instagram. “Thank you for being open-minded in a six-way relationship that requires compromise. And lots of “chatting.” Thank you for coming to work even when you weren’t feeling well, and for working tirelessly afterwards. ”
Kudrow concluded by saying that Friends was “the best 10 years for a man,” adding, “Matthew, thank you for the time we spent together.”
