The Canyon fire began Thursday near Lake Pill in Ventura County. The fire was burning away from the pill community and towards the LA County community in Castyick. One of several burning fires in Southern California had burned nearly 5,000 acres by Friday morning.

The Canyon Fire burned nearly 5,000 acres in the Ventura and Los Angeles counties. There, evacuation orders and warnings were issued in several areas.

The fire was burning away from the Pill community and towards the Castatic community in Los Angeles County, located about 40 miles north of Los Angeles, just off the 5th Expressway.

In an update Friday morning, firefighters said the canyon fire burned with light to medium brushes, threatening the area’s power lines. The fire was near the Hasley Canyon and Hathaway Ranch communities.

The Canyon Fire is one of several that burned Friday in Southern California. The Gifford Fires in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties, the state’s largest active fires, are estimated to be over 99,000 acres.
