Officials announced Saturday that crews have found the body of what is believed to be the last missing passenger involved in a Dec. 1 cliff slide in Ventura County.
The Ventura County Search and Rescue Team (VCSAR) was conducting a search in “dangerous terrain” on Dec. 7 when they discovered a body under deep foliage, according to an update released by the California Highway Patrol. .
CHP says the person’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin, but they are the last missing occupants of a car that plunged 1,000 feet down a hillside a week ago. It is thought that there is.
The incident, which occurred in the area of Deer Creek Road, occurred around 2 a.m. on Dec. 1, but was not reported to CHP until around noon on Dec. 2.
According to the CHP, “The reporting party claimed that he got out of the car and walked to a nearby road where someone would pick him up, but nothing was heard from the two other passengers in the car. “I haven’t.” Authorities did not immediately say the exact cause of the crash.
Officers arrived on Dec. 2 and found a white Cadillac Escalade at the bottom of a cliff, but learned that no one had heard from the driver or any additional passengers since the accident.

CHP said search and rescue teams were sent across multiple agencies to search for the other two occupants, but no one was found and the search was halted after four hours “due to darkness and dangerous terrain.” It is said to have been discontinued.
In an update on X (formerly Twitter) at 7:30 p.m. the same day, fire officials announced that one of the missing residents had been found in his home.

By approximately 9 p.m., crews were able to access and search the vehicle, but were unable to locate the missing occupants and the search was suspended until Tuesday morning.
CHP said Tuesday that VCSAR searched again during the day using a helicopter, but were still unable to locate the missing occupants.
The last missing occupant had been reported as missing on Dec. 6, and CHP said it requested VCSAR search the area again on Dec. 7, when crews discovered the bodies.
It remains unclear why the accident was not reported earlier and whether the driver or another passenger was found dead, but CHP says the investigation is ongoing.
