It’s not uncommon to scramble for bargains during the holiday shopping season. It’s a different story when a fight breaks out in the parking lot outside a store.

Authorities say this happened earlier this week at the Cidatel Outlet in Commerce around 5 p.m. when several people attacked a 19-year-old woman in the parking lot and stole her mother’s wallet during the scuffle. .

Natalie Martinez and her mother, Patricia Cooper, were looking for a parking spot Wednesday when they spotted an empty space next to a vehicle with one of its doors open, they told KTLA-TV. .

Martinez waited a few minutes and then honked his horn to let the other car’s occupants know he intended to park in an empty parking lot. KTLA reported that after the group pulled up to the scene, they got out of the car next to them and acted hostile. The group exchanged words and then an argument ensued, Martinez said. The video does not show who started the fight.

But what happened after the first punch was captured on cell phone video shared with KTLA.

A group of people in the other vehicle surrounded Martinez between the two vehicles, and two of them repeatedly punched her before a third pulled her leg and forced her to the ground. Martinez can also be seen fighting back.

A man in the group can be seen reaching into Martinez’s car. They told KTLA that the person stole their mother’s wallet, which contained $3,000 in cash for rent, as well as bills, gifts, credit cards and identification.

Martinez suffered several bruises and a cut to his lip, the news station said.

Lt. Jose Navarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident remains under investigation and detectives are working to identify the suspect.

“It’s only a matter of time before they get caught,” he said.
